Title and Genre

Boss Rush! is a 2D indie action-platformer with adventure and puzzle elements, which plays with the conventions of the platformer genre, and bases itself off the concept of switching the player role from the traditional smaller protagonist to the larger, more powerful antagonist. Being that this is an inversion of the traditional dynamic between the player's role and the final boss (the ultimate obstacle of most platformers), the game bills itself on "playing as the final boss", and themes itself round this aspect.

The game's action elements include side characters which the player can switch control with mid-level, along with various character upgrades the player can find over the course of the game which provide new skills and mechanics to the player. Story and tone also play a role in the game, with themes of perspective and morality delivered in a lighthearted tone.

High Concept

A 2D platformer where you play as the "final boss", the storyline's antagonist and a large, lumbering character. The game plays from right to left, starting in the boss lair and ending at the protagonist's homeland. The player can switch between the main character and minions (extra playable characters) within levels, each with their own movesets and utility. On the level select screen, the player can see which level the hero, their rival, is currently in, and levels play out differently depending on whether the hero is present or not, with the former being chase or battle sequences involving the hero and the latter being regular platformer levels. The player can discover minions and new abilities, and manage and upgrade them in their base.

Target Audience, Platforms and Release

The game's main intended audiences are platforming and action enthusiasts, and players who enjoy colorful, charming and charming games. It's not limited to any one age demographic, but leans towards younger audiences. The game is semi-casual, with some demand in skill but not intense in its difficulty, so it mostly veers to casual audiences.

The game is planned to release on PC, and be ported to current-gen consoles if well-received enough, beginning with the Nintendo Switch. The price of the game is not final, but for the moment, it is priced at $15, and it will not feature any mircotransactions, though the game may receive paid DLC extras such as new extra campaigns in addition to the new game (which will be designed and developed only after the initial base game is complete). Taking the scope and completion of the game into consideration, it is important that the price fairly reflects the amount of content in the game, not to mention quality, so pricing is subject to change, however monestisation methods are decided and final.

.

Market Competition

The market for platformers on the whole is fairly free to breach, however the market for indie action platformers is quite saturated. In order to compete in the market, the game will need to stand out, which it'll be doing with its mechanics and theming - a platforming game where you play as the villain is a rarity, one where the mechanics are themed around this aspect (interacting with the hero, secondary playable characters) even more so. However the indie game market is still generally saturated with platformers and action platformers, so emphasizing and perfecting the mechanics of this game will be crucial for it to stand out and maintain any longevity.
