Self‐Hosted PDF Reader - cs428TAs/f2026 GitHub Wiki

I have working code for a self-hosted PDF reader. It allows me to listen to PDFs of academic papers without paying for some PDF reading app online. While the web app does work, it needs some major code improvement (it's a small app that I vibe coded). I would also like to make it much more robust and expand the feature list so that it is more useful and easier and effective to use than it currently is.

I would be fine to do a complete rewrite of the code, but the nice thing is that we already would have a working product to demo and start with. Part of the goal of this project is to make it free or extremely cheap to have a PDF read to you. While many technologies exist online, there is something nice about hosting it yourself. This project currently uses a self hosted text to speech model and code for extracting text from a PDF. I would be fine to change coding language, tech-stack whatever works to make it better.
