Essential Question 1: Vacancy
Key Data Definitions
- A current vacancy is defined as any position reported that does not have a filled date as of last refresh.
- A school year, for demo purposes, is defined using July 1 as the new year cutoff date. Any vacancy open on or after July 1 will be counted toward the new school year ((cut off month is set based on demo data; adjust for local context)..
- Vacancies are assigned to months based on whether they were open during any part of a given month. For example, if a vacancy was posted on August 15th and closed on September 5th, it will show as being an open vacancy for months of August and September.
Chart Navigation
In line graphs with multiple series, series may overlap, making selecting for just a single point difficult. If encountering this difficulty, the recommended approach is to filter the chart down to a single series and then select points as needed. For example in the Vacancies through time chart, which displays vacancy series for multiple years, apply the SchoolYear filter for the desired year.

- RetainedInDistrictNotSchool - Staff switched schools within a district.
- NoLongerInDistrict - Staff switched to a different district within a county.

Chart Navigation
In line graphs with multiple series, series may overlap, making selecting for just a single point difficult. If encountering this difficulty, the recommended approach is to filter the chart down to a single series and then select points as needed.
For example in the Retention Across School Years chart, if the line chart is being analyzed by assignment type, filter the dashboard for just a single assignment type to view just a single line.
Additionally, the retention trends line charts have a vertical zoom feature that allows you to limit the range of the Y-Axis, which has the effect of spreading out individual lines.
