An Archetype is the essence of your character. Are you a Knight (covered in the Pendragon Core Rulebook), a Lady (from The Nobles Handbook), perhaps something else from future releasesor something your GM has created. The Archetype determines the outline of your characteristics, your base skill scores, the classes you can become and what Trait bonuses you get. It also includes an Ideal which in turn determines whether you qualify as a Knight, Lady etc

Player Actions

Clicking on this box will present the player with a list of Archetypes that exist either in the game world or compendia. You always choose which Archetype you want even if the Random creation method has been chose.

If only one Archetype exists then this will automatically be applied and you won't see the dialog box.

Once added you can view the Archetype from the Bio tab of the character sheet.

GM Setup

The GM will either have to have modules with at least one Archetype set up or create their own (they will need PIDs for the system to recognise them).
