2.0. Using the Land Use section
This section shows you how to use the current Land Use section of the Colouring Cities Research Programme (CCRP). The Alan Turing Institute and Loughborough University are currently working together on a new land use classification system that allows Colouring Cities Platforms to link national land use classification systems with International Industrial Standard Codes (UK SIC & ISIC), the Statistical Classification of Economic Activities in the European Community (NACE).
This work is being funded at the Alan Turing Institute, by EPSRC, and Loughborough University by the Department of Levelling-Up, Housing and Community (DLUHC), as part of the Town Deals initiatives, 2023-2026.
The CCRP is using the UK case as an initial case study, linking the Valuation Office Agency's Special Category Codes (SCat) used for Non-Domestic tax assessment (NNDR) by the UK Government property tax agency to international classification systems. This integrated approach provides a robust framework for classifying land use with a focus on economic activity, offering valuable insights for tracking land use dynamics.
The updated Land Use categories/sub-categories will be added shortly in early 2025.
