TLC Meeting January 30, 2008

The TLC met by teleconference on January 30, 2008 at 3:00 PM EST.

Agenda

  1. Should perms.txt be visible?
  2. Game plan for releases
  3. Several Binary issues
    1. When we are ready to include packages in distributions, should we distribute CPL versions, GPL versions, or both?
    2. What should we do regarding mumps? Is there another open source linear solver that can be used with Ipopt?
    3. debs for Ubuntu are ready to be tested. The necessary changes to the web server will be on the CoinDeb page.
    4. Maybe more general issue: use of Trac's Web Admin plugin suggested: alternatively -- how to manage components?
  4. Discuss inclusion of OMHelp in COIN repository.

Notes

  1. It was discussed that because perms.txt is worl-readable, it is easy to gather the user names of those who have write access to the repository and then use a password cracker to break insecure passwords and wreak havoc with the repository. However, it seems that the usernames are available in SVN logs and other publicly accessible locations in any case, so the only way to avoid this kind of insecurity is to require secure passwords.
  2. It was decided to make the changes required to install the addlibs.txt files in $(prefix)/share/doc/coin/$(PKG_NAME) before beginning the next release cycle. Other global changes will be delayed until later.
  3. Several issues related to binaries were discussed.
    1. It was discussed that it is only feasible to release CPL version of projects.
    2. It was decided to contact the maintainers of Mumps to let them know we are planning to release a version of Ipopt including Mumps code. Pending this contact, it should be fine to release a binary version of Ipopt built with Mumps.
    3. It was announced that .debs are now available for testing. Please test them if you can.
    4. It was discussed that the admin plugin for Trac is already available.
  4. The possible submission of OMHelp to COIN-OR was discussed. It was decided to ask Brad Bell about the possibility of just hosting it as part of CppAD.

Respectfully submitted,

Ted Ralphs, TLC Chair
