Committee Reports
-
The committee on moving the repository to subversion has not met yet. They will have a reommendation in place by the next TLC meeting. There was no discussion.
-
The committee on stable releases and versioning has posted a strawman proposal for a versioning system. Their ultimate conclusion, however, was that it could not be finalized until the move to subversion occurs. This is because of the fact that how versioning is specifically handled will depend on the details of the subversion implementation. They are currently putting their work on hold until the move occurs. There was no discussion.
-
The committee on distribution of binaries has posted a strawman proposal for a new project to distribute binaries. The details of the proposal were reviewed and members were generally in favor of the proposal. The next step will be to create a formal project, release the strawman for public comment and start putting together the first beta release. An issue closely related to that of binary distributions is upgrading the build environment, so that it supports cross-platform builds. A page has been created for comments on this issue.

There was some discussion of what a formal project classification scheme should look like. It was generally agreed that there needs to be well-defined guidelines for determining a project's category, rather than the ill-defined scheme we currently have. A few ideas were mentioned, such as defining a production project to be one that meets the requirements for being in the binary distribution. A ProjectCategories page has been started to try to put together a formal proposal. One point that came up as an aside was that all grandfathered projects should be brought into compliance with current minimum guidelines as soon as possible.
-
There was some discussion of the build system, but consensus was that it also has to wait for the move to subversion.
-
Disucssion of the decision-making process was tabled.
The next meeting will be February 16, 2006 at 2:00 PM EST (MeetingNotes021606). The meeting was adjourned at 3:10 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Ted Ralphs TLC Chair
