This document describes specifications for the construction of a plexiglass box and laser cut parts.
SVG project files created using Inkscape is provided for the construction of a plexiglass box and other parts. All parts are expected to be cut from "clear" 8.5βx11β plexiglass sheets, and glued to form a box with one panel which will not be glued β because that opening is where other objects will be inserted into the box.
The SVG files include red hairline width lines to indicate cut areas. The assumption is that those lines will be cut by a laser. One of the files (box-left-panel-1.4.svg) includes a black image which should be laser etched.
The dimensions of the box is 9β x 7.5β x 7.5β (Length x Width x Height). The box panels should be cut from 1/4β clear plexiglass. File names include a β-1-4β in their filename to indicated this material preference.
The box panels should be glued to include a bottom panel, a left and right side panel and a front and top panel. Note that a back panel (box-back-panel-1.4.svg) should NOT be glued to the box.
The image below shows a top down view of the panel alignments with the exception that the top panel is intended to rest at the opposite end of the bottom panel (or closest to the viewer when looking down at the box). Think of the bottom panel as remaining stationary while the other panels fold up to form a box. This should be clear from the illustration below.
Itβs important that the alignment of the black logo graphic be oriented as shown above. The image should be closer to back of the box with the longer end at the front of the box.
Attached are two other files inset-panel-1-4.svg and parts-1.2.svg which are not intended to be glued to the box. Those files are parts which should be cut. Per the file names the β1-4β inset panel part should be cut from 1/4β clear plexiglass while the parts-1.2 file should be cut from 1/2β clear plexiglass.
Note, the inset-panel-1.4.svg file contains circular hole markings for screws.
