01 ‐ Print Settings & Guidelines - chrisjameschamp/DIY-Active-Pedal-Design GitHub Wiki
This page contains the recommended print settings for the DIY Active Pedal system. These apply to most major parts, unless otherwise noted in their specific subfolders (e.g., Pedal Arm or Power Supply).
⚠️ If you're not familiar with printing large, functional parts — especially in nylon-carbon fiber — we highly recommend running a few test prints before committing to the full components.
General Print Settings
Setting | Recommendation |
---|---|
Layer Height | 0.2mm or 0.25mm |
Wall Loops | 8–10 (minimum of 4 for non-load parts) |
Top Layers | 8–12 |
Bottom Layers | 8–10 |
Infill | 30% Gyroid (use 40%+ if using Grid) |
Brim | 10mm recommended |
Adhesion Aid | Glue stick or Magigoo recommended |
Print Speed | Moderate (40–60 mm/s), depending on material |
Cooling Fan | Off for Nylon / ePA-CF, Low for PETG |
Material Tips
eSun ePA-CF (Nylon-Carbon Fiber)
This is the primary material used in development and testing.
- Dry your filament thoroughly before use — ideally 6+ hours at 70–80°C
- Print temperature: 260–280°C
- Bed temp: 60–70°C
- Heated chamber or enclosure strongly recommended
- Excellent strength and layer bonding, minimal warping with proper prep
PETG+CF or ABS+CF
Affordable alternatives that may work well for lower-load parts (like enclosures or mounts).
- Print temperature: 240–250°C
- Bed temp: 70–90°C
- Slightly more brittle than nylon, especially ABS+CF
- Watch out for poor Z-layer bonding with some brands
PLA+ / PLA Pro
Use with caution — not recommended for load-bearing parts like the pedal arm.
May be acceptable for mounting plates, test prints, or cosmetic parts.
Print Preparation
- Always run a flow calibration and temp tower for your filament before starting major parts
- Consider printing test cubes or layer adhesion samples to dial in strength
- For large prints, monitor the first layer carefully — adhesion is critical
Part-Specific Nuances
Some parts may have specific printing requirements (e.g., support usage, brim size, or orientation).
Refer to the appropriate folder inside the Design Files section of the repository for any part-specific notes or overrides.
