Proposed Chef Stack Exchange Community

At several of the sessions, the idea of improving the new user experience was discussed.

One of the ways we can improve this is to have a persistent place where questions can be asked and the best answers voted on. Stack Exchange has already invented this wheel, and they have a process by which you can request a new community.

I have started a proposal here:

http://area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/77609/chef/

The proposal is currently in the definition phase, and requires a total of 60 followers and 40 questions with a score of 10 to proceed to the commitment phase. If you feel that a dedicated community on Stack Exchange for Chef is a good thing, please:

  1. Follow the proposal
  2. Propose more questions
  3. Upvote good questions

Thank you

Rationale

Why do we need a dedicated Chef community when there are tags for chef on StackOverflow and ServerFault? The current breakdown of questions to tags is as follows:

  • ServerFault (530 total)
    • chef: 394
    • chef-solo: 65
    • chef-server: 40
    • chef-client 31
  • StackOverflow (2482 total)
    • chef: 1950
    • chef-recipe: 286
    • chef-solo: 205
    • codechef: 140 (this has nothing to do with Chef!)
    • chefspec: 28
    • chef-windows: 11
    • chefdk: 2

That's a total of 3012 chef-related questions on two sites across 8 tags. I feel that people should have one place to get answers for these without participating members having to follow all of the different tags, and keep up with new tags (e.g. chefdk)
