IDEA: the owlbear has encountered the timepiece, but is somehow immune to the nightly memory-wipe. It can remember when it had the timepiece in its possession (or it currently still has it, if we want to make this into a quest), and longs to keep it because life is so much easier when everything resets everyday; food is always in the same place, avoiding goblins is easy.
