[!IMPORTANT] Goblin Court always has a chance of appearing at anytime, regardless of whether the players intentionally instigate it or not

Triggers

Whenever the players talk about the goblins, they risk triggering the appearence of Goblin Court.

Once triggered, a goblin will blow on a horn which the players can hear. Moments later, Marsh will be carried in on his chair, and Goblin Court will be in session.

Beginning Goblin Court

This involves a grand entrance of the various goblins who will run Goblin Court. Have the goblins throw open the doors to a tavern, or bust through a wall. Then have some goblins roll out a red carpet, and bring in the goblin jury, goblin lawyers, and finally, Marsh, the goblin judge and the fattest goblin anyone's ever seen.

Once Goblin Court is in session, provide an informal process by which the goblins conduct Goblin Court. It should resemble a highly corrupt, completely unfair, and sloppy process, benefiting only the goblins and the spectators.

Ideas

Marsh quotes:

  • "Court is now in session for the trial of the new guys in town. Is the prosecution ready?"
  • If the defendants ask for a lawyer: "if you are unable to hire a lawyer one will be provided to you. Is there another lawyer here?" The prosecuting lawyer offers to represent them, playing both roles, and of course, favoring the prosecution.
  • "Do you have any evidence to provide?"
  • "The prosecution may call its first witness" (the prosecution is a goblin who was lurking around wherever the players were when they started talking about the goblins.)

Outcomes

  • Players can find Harvard Law, a lawyer who will represent them and help them escape being detained.
  • If found guilty, the players are locked up in Goblin Jail in a in the Forest Cave.
