Medical Insurance Cash Options

Employees may receive cash in lieu of state-sponsored medical insurance if they have other qualifying medical coverage through a spouse, domestic partner, parent or other source. These options provides a benefit allowance, rather than specific contribution amounts for health and dental benefits.

CoBen Cash Option - Excluded employees only

Excluded employees may receive cash in lieu of state-sponsored health insurance if they have other qualifying medical coverage through a spouse, domestic partner, parent or other source.

Plan Options Payment amount per month
Option 1: if you decline both the state-sponsored health and dental plans $155
Option 2: if you decline only the state-sponsored health plan $30

**Things to note about the CoBen Cash option:**

  • Must enroll within 60 days of hire date
  • There is a 3 year commitment when you decline option 1. This means, if you enroll in the cash option in lieu of dental benefits, you may not re-enroll in a state-sponsored dental plan for three "plan years." (Plan years run from January 1 through December 31.)
  • You will not receive any CoBen Cash if you decline dental coverage only.
  • Payments are included with your regular paycheck and are subject to the same payroll taxes (federal, state, and Social Security) as your regular salary.

Cash Option Non-CoBen (FlexElect) - Civil Service BU 1##

Civil Service employees who are part of bargaining unit 1, may receive cash in lieu of state-sponsored health and/or dental benefits insurance if they have other qualifying medical and/or dental coverage through a spouse, domestic partner, parent or other source.

Cash option benefits are provided under the FlexElect program. Depending on which cash option you enroll in, you'll receive the following:

option 1: if you decline the state-sponsored health plan $128
option 2:: if you decline the state-sponsored dental benefits $12
option 3: if you decline both the state-sponsored health and dental plans $140

**Things to note about the Non-CoBen Cash option:**
