V Drive - byuawsfhtl/RLL_computer_vision GitHub Wiki

We work in two primary spaces, the supercomputer, which is accessible anywhere, and the Vdrive. The Vdrive can be accessed on the lab computers or through a remote desktop.

Mapping the Vdrive to a Lab Computer

File explorer method

When the V drive doesn't show up on a lab computer, add it by opening a file explorer, going to "This PC." Go to the Computer tab and select "Map Network Drive." Select V from the dropdown menu and enter the following path:

\\DFS4\FHSS\NAS(V)

Once it is mapped, if you do not have access, email Dr. Price to grant you permission to access it. If the above mapping doesn't work, try different numbers (\DFS1, \DFS2, \DFS3, etc.). This changes from time to time so you might be able to guess the correct number.

Command line method

Type the following command into a command prompt: net use V: \\DFS4\FHSS\NAS(V)

Access Vdrive remotely

To connect to the remote desktop, you'll need a few things.

  1. Permissions (granted by emailing Dr. Price)
  2. BYU's global protect VPN
  3. RDGW server
  4. Destination computer

Global Protect

Use the following article from the OIT Knowledge Base to get setup on the VPN: https://it.byu.edu/it?id=kb_article&sys_id=b3ed2555dbe7cc901f061cb51b9619a7

RDGW server

If you're using Windows, open up the "Remote Desktop Connection" application. Click "Show Options" at the bottom, then the "Advanced" tab on the top, "Settings" under "Connect from anywhere", then the "Use these RD Gateway server settings" option. Enter in "rdgw.byu.edu" for the server name and set logon method to "Allow me to select later". Uncheck the box that says "Bypass RD server gateway for local addresses". Hit "OK", then "Connect".

Destination computer

Currently, under the "General" tab, the computer to connect to is "FHSS-CS2". This has changed in the past, so I suspect it could change again. Email Dr. Price or ask in the slack if the connection isn't working as it should.

Notes

You'll have to login at several points to access the remote desktop. With most of the logins, you'll also be given a push on DUO to authenticate. Make sure you don't miss a DUO push because it will stop the connection with a message similar to "You don't have access to this resource". You likely do, just make sure you are checking your phone. If you are having issues you can't solve, submit a help request at fhsscomputing.byu.edu.
