How many pizzas are delivered in Manhattan? How do you design an alarm clock for the blind? What is your favorite software and why? How would you start a video rental company in India? In this book, you will learn how to answer these and other questions.

Packed with helpful, but not overwhelming, information, McDowell does it again with another MUST-READ book for anyone in the tech. The most useful parts of the book were 1) the sample questions and 2) the sample answers. As someone who learns better by looking at specific examples, I felt that this book really helped build my confidence and knowledge of the role of PM. For those who are not the same type of learner as me, McDowell adapts through other methods to pass on the same skills. For example, include frames (with helpful acronyms) and dos and don'ts.

However, I would advise you to write down or take notes at the same time if you really hope to absorb all of the information presented. Simply flipping through the sections won't help, and some chapters may even be more effective if you ASK the questions or activities on a separate piece of paper. But overall, thank you, McDowell, for another career-enhancing piece of literature.

This book is essential if you are looking for a job in product management. Interviewers pretty much hope you've read this (and many use this book to frame their interviews!) And it's the first product management book that a PM would recommend to you.

In essence, the book structures the largely generalist role of the PM and the daunting, multi-faceted interview process. It's a great book for consulting on the areas YOU need rather than memorizing tactics. Better use the book as a guide: to assess your strengths and weaknesses, and then to sharpen your clarity on the PM's role and the interview process to get a new one.
