The new Polkadot Generic App provides a seamless self-custody experience for Pokadot and Kusama ecosystem users. To reap its benefits, you must migrate your assets to a new Polkadot Generic address using the Polkadot Migration app.

Do I need to Migrate my Assets?

If you secured Kusama (KSM) or assets on a Polkadot or Kusama Parachain with a dedicated Ledger app in the past, you must migrate your assets to a new account generated by the Polkadot Generic app. This guide will walk you through the steps to migrate Parachain assets to a new Polkadot Generic Accounts using the Polkadot Migration Ledger App.

Polkadot (DOT) previously secured by a Ledger device do not need to be migrated.

Please download the last update of Ledger Live Application:

Before you begin

  • Update Ledger Live through the notification banner or download the latest version.
  • Make sure your Ledger device runs the latest OS (firmware) version. 

Install the Polkadot and Polkadot Migration apps

  1. Open Ledger Live and navigate to the My Ledger tab.
  2. Connect and unlock your Ledger device.
  3. If asked, allow My Ledger on your device.
  4. Search for the Polkadot app in the app catalog.
  5. Click the Install button of the app. After a short moment, the word Installed appears in Ledger Live, confirming the installation is successful.
  6. Repeat to install the Polkadot Migration app in the app catalog.

How to Migrate Legacy Parachain Accounts with Talisman Wallet

Part 1: Add Legacy Accounts to Talisman using the Polkadot Migration App

  1. Download Talisman Wallet**** on a supported browser like Chrome.
  2. Open Talisman Wallet, and from the navigation menu, click Add account.
  3. Select Connect (Ledger, Polkadot Vault, etc.), then select** Connect Ledger.
  4. Select Polkadot then Migration App as the Ledger App Version.
  5. Select the network you are migrating from (e.g., Kusama if transferring from KSM to a Polkadot Generic Account).
  6. On your Ledger device, open the Polkadot Migration App.
  7. Click Continue.
  8. Allow the page to load, and select all accounts with balances using the check box.
  9. Click Continue and wait for the “Account Connected” notification banner. You should arrive at a new page for the account you’ve added.

Part 2: Generate a New Address Using the Polkadot Ledger App

  1. In Talisman Wallet, click Add account again.
  2. Select Connect (Ledger, Polkadot Vault, etc.), then select** Connect Ledger.
  3. Select Polkadot then Polkadot App as the Ledger App Version.
  4. On your Ledger device, open the Polkadot App.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Allow the page to load, and select the first account Ledger Polkadot 1.
  7. Click Continue.
  8. Once the account is successfully imported and your assets are visible, click Copy from the left menu. Select the appropriate parachain (e.g., Kusama) and copy the address to your clipboard.

Part 3: Send Assets from Legacy account to New Account

  1. In the left menu, click on the arrow next to Ledger Polkadot 1 and select the account added in Part 1. Click Send.
  2. Open Polkadot Migration App on your Ledger device.
  3. Select the asset you wish to migrate from the pop-up list in Talisman, then Select your new Ledger Polkadot 1 as the destination. Follow on-screen prompts to select the amount you wish to send, then confirm the transaction on your Ledger device.
  4. After the transaction is complete, return to the Talisman dashboard. Select your Ledger Polkadot1 account from the left menu and verify the updated balance.

Repeat the above steps for each parachain to migrate all your assets to the new addresses.

Following these steps will ensure your assets are securely migrated to your new Polkadot Generic Account.
