Scenario: Asking for Gardening Advice in the Community Forum
Persona
John (40) is a beginner gardener from New York City. He's recently joined a nearby community garden and is eager to start growing his first set of plants. However, he is unsure about which types of plants are best suited for New York City's urban conditions and seasonal climate. He uses the Community Garden Planner to benefit from the experiences of other hobbyists. John turns to the platform's Community Forum to seek advice from more experienced users.
Pre-Conditions
- John is registered as a Member on the platform.
- He has access to the Community Forum feature.
- Notifications for forum activity are enabled in his preferences.
Scenario Steps
- John logs into the Community Garden Planner and navigates to the Community Forum.
- He clicks “New Post” and creates a discussion thread under the “Beginner Gardening” category with the title:
"What are the easiest plants to grow in NYC during spring?" - The post is published and visible to other users in the forum.
- Within a few hours, multiple users respond with advice, personal experience, and plant suggestions.
- Each time someone comments on John’s post, he receives a notification through both in-app and email channels (FR 6.1).
- John logs in, reads the replies, and engages with users by replying to their comments and asking follow-up questions.
- After receiving a helpful and detailed response from another gardener, John clicks “Mark as Solved” on the thread.
(Note: This action assumes forum posts can be resolved. If not implemented, this step can be replaced with a “Thank you” reply.)
- The thread is tagged as Solved, and other users browsing the forum can easily identify it as a resolved beginner-level question.
Post-Conditions
- The post is stored in the forum and accessible to future users.
- John gains clarity and confidence to start planting.
- The solved status helps others with similar questions find helpful advice.
Alternate Flows
- If John receives no responses within a few days, the system may suggest similar existing posts or allow him to “bump” the question to improve visibility.
- If the "Mark as Solved" feature is not available, John may reply with a thank-you and close the discussion manually.
