Scenario: High Contrast Mode Usage & Forum Filtering by a Color-Blind User

User Persona

  • Elif Soylu (27) is a university student from Ankara studying Computer Engineering. She has deuteranopia, a form of red-green color blindness, which makes it difficult for her to distinguish between similar colors—especially in low contrast interfaces. She uses digital platforms daily but often struggles when applications rely only on color differences.
  • Elif joined the Community Garden Planner platform to follow sustainable gardening tips and help her grandmother improve their small family garden in the village.

Pre-Conditions

  • Elif is a registered Member of the platform.
  • Elif is logged into the system.
  • Her device is set to Turkish, and she later switches to English using the translation feature.

Scenario Steps

  1. Elif opens the Community Garden Planner mobile application on her phone.
  2. On the homepage, she notices that some buttons and text are hard to distinguish due to low color contrast.
  3. She enables High Contrast Mode.
  4. Elif navigates to the garden page and uploads an image to her garden.
  5. Elif navigates to the Forum feed to find gardening advice but wants to filter the posts.
  6. She taps the Filter option and selects “Show only posts from gardens in which I am a member of.
  7. Now the forum shows only posts from people Elif shares gardens with.
  8. She writes a forum reply thanking another user for sharing a composting guide she found useful.

  • The forum feed correctly displays only posts from users sharing the same gardens with Elif.
