The site has a random
feature that redirects the user to a random building page for fun.
Building Pages
Top of the Page
The building pages greet the user with a photo of the building and below it are the name of the architect, year of construction and location. Under it we have an information panel which summarizes the building information, an example is below:
Information
Below the photo and the panel, the related information is given in plain text under titles like "introduction", "structure" and "materials". Interesting artifacts to look for in the building are described and photos and sometimes sketches are given.
Right Sidebar
The sidebar at the right-hand side of the page has drawings and photos of the building, like this:
Differences Between Web and Mobile
Main Page
The website has a sidebar on the left that introduces the following options to the user:
- Search
- Buildings
- Architects
- Places
- Random Project
- Language Options
- Videos
- More (about the site and contact, collab and social media information)
Here is an image of the sidebar:
The mobile site, on the other hand, has no sidebar on the left, therefore providing less features to the mobile user.
Remarks
- The site has no categorization for architectural style, we thought providing that would be a good way to search for the user while we are choosing the domain.
- The site uses Google's programmable search engine for semantic search.
- The search engine redirects the user in a Google search page and breaks the immersion of the UI.
- The search engine also displays 2 or 3 ads per search so you have to scroll down a bit to see the actual results, which is infuriating for the user.
- The site lacks the capability of searching for specifically highlighting important features of buildings (such as its architectural style or place) when showing search results. We might think of a way to make this more user-friendly, like providing search filters for style, place and so on.
- The location information given for buildings are not straightforward, that is, it doesn't present the user with directly accessible information. We might use Google Maps and embed the location.
- There is no logic for social interaction in the site, that is, users can't post under pages and can't comment on or like posts.
