Lab Report #2
📆 Date: 01/10/2024 15:00
Introduction
We are the Group 5 taking the Cmpe 451 course this semester. Our project is on an English learning platform for Turkish speakers. This is the report on what we have completed during the Lab 2.
Discussion
-
We planned the features of our platform:
- The users will generate quizzes, by giving their choise of words.
- The difficulty level of a user-generated quiz will be calculated by the system, as a kind of average of the words being used in the quiz.
- We will have a database containing the difficulty level of the words.
- We will use the CEFR system to determine the levels (from A1 to C2) of both the users and the quizzes.
- The same quiz can be solved multiple times.
- Random quiz generation will not be implemented initially.
- Users can add questions they've seen to a quiz and create a new quiz based on this playlist.
- "Add to my favorites" and "See again" features for words users want to learn in the feature.
-
We asked our requirement questions to the TA for clarification of some points:
- The platform is more like a Quizzlet rather than Duolingo. So, the system will be a learning tool, not a curriculum-based platform. The learning aspect is more free.
- We can utilize any free linked data source.
- Semantic search and a recommendation system could be considered.
- A word list of around 5000 words is acceptable, but more can be added (Wiktionary has a list available).
-
We determined intermediate milestones. The first milestone is due next week, 8/10/2024. And the deliverables are as follows:
- Software requirements.
- Proof of Concept for implementing the question generation, especially determining the wrong choices of a question.
