What Is A Standard

  • A standard can be described as it contains rules that define a list of requirements for websites to ensure compatibility between different hardware or software elements.

What Is W3C Standards

  • The purpose of W3C is to maximize the potential of the World Wide Web. To achieve this mission, W3C prepares web standards, which are also named Recommendations, whose aim is to give directives to create accessible, interoperable and efficient Web.
  • The most widely known W3C standards are HyperText Markup Language (HTML), eXtensible Markup Language (XML) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).

Why These Standards Are Important

  • W3C standards are important because these standards provide equality to the websites in the sense of working well for everyone, regardless of location or technology. So, web designers must obey W3C standards to make stable web-sites.
  • For example, you may have visited a web site whose contents cannot be seen correctly, or you may have encountered a problem while visiting a web site on Firefox, but not in Chrome. You have encountered these problems because these web sites have not properly applied W3C standards.

What Checks For These Standards

  • The W3C also provides a validation process, which is called W3C Validation, that controls the website if it obeys the rules that are stated in the W3C standards. While creating a website, importance of W3C validation should be taken into account. For example, if a website fails while validation, this website is affected negatively in the terms of having poor traffic or having errors while visiting the website. This is because this website has poor visual formatting and readability.
  • W3C validation is a control mechanism that checks whether your website is properly prepared according to the W3C standards. W3C validation also has debugging and correcting features to help you. It automatically demonstrates coding errors in your HTML, XHTML and CSS code.

What Happens If W3C Validation Fails

  • Search engines do not pay attention to your W3C validation errors. On the other hand, W3C validation provides you simplified and faster websites. Also, search engines are ranking websites according to their page load speed. As a result, if your website has W3C validation errors, it means that load speed of your website will be slower than other sites and your visitor will be decreasing.
