Personas

Utkan

Utkan, one of our group members, is the persona of our scenario. He's a University student, studying Computer Engineering, so he spends a remarkable amount of time with computers. He also happens to enjoy riding bicycle, and secretly (!) hates the cars and their proud drivers.

##Furkan Furkan is a teenager, studying in a High School. He is the persona of Mobile Scenario. He played a lot of computer games until now, but he is bored of them. He wants something different in his life to enjoy.

Web Scenarios

Utkan will be the hero of the following three scenarios.

Looking for the Linux Distributions

Utkan has been using Windows operating system since forever. Being a Computer Engineering student himself, he of course heard a lot about Linux and even used some of its distributions, although he never considered it as an operating system to use all the time.

Recently he has read a lot about Microsoft is spying on their users via Windows, and that Linux distributions respect the privacy and security of their users. Without really confirming these claims, he decides to give it a shot.

He wants to see all his options, and pick one from them based on what the others think about them. Google doesn't help; it lists the pages which suggest only 3-to-5 distributions picked by the editor. Wikipedia doesn't help either; it lists all of them in an encyclopedic perspective, without the comments of their users.

MEANCO, on the other hand, will list every distribution of Linux to him, along with the comments that have been post for them and tags which have been put on them.

Home View

From where he left he sees his Home View. He types "linux" into the search box and hits the button that reads "topic" in blue.

Linux

He now has the Linux topic on his view. He sees the "distribution" relation going away from the Linux topic, but the view is zoomed in a lot. He scrolls away by one level with his trackpad to see more about the surroundings.

Out Linux

He now sees 3 distributions of the Linux there, and a strange topic with the title "...". He also sees a "security thread" relation going out of Linux to a topic called "systemd", which catches his attention. Being a little concerned, he resumes back to what he came for: The Linux distributions, he doesn't want just 3 of them, he wants to see them all, so he clicks on the topic with ellipsis.

Linux distribution more

Linux moves to the left-hand-side of the screen, and the distributions to the right. He now sees all of the distributions in a list with a couple of tags on their side. He scrolls down, checks out their tags. He could go into one of them to see more about them, but his mind is not in relief: What was that "security threat" thing over there?

He wants to go back and find out what it was, so he clicks on the back arrow on the upper left corner in blue.

Out Linux again

And then he clicks on the "security threat" to see what other relation there are between the Linux and the systemd.

Linux systemd relation more

Apparently, systemd is something that Linux utilizes, although it kills the Linux, and systemd itself is a service manager which is a daemon, but considered malicious. Interesting! Having already obtained a lot of information right there, he wants more, so he clicks on the systemd to get inside of that topic.

In systemd

He can now learn a lot from those user-generated comments and tags to have a general understanding of what this systemd thing is. He sees the link to suckless.org/sucks/systemd and he follows that.

Browsing suckless

Hmm... (15 minutes later) Wow, he liked it a lot! He's going to give a plus one to that! He closes the suckless tab.

In systemd 15 minutes later

He notices that +20 bonus on the first comment has went down to +10. Must be something that goes away with time, he thinks. He casts his vote for the second comment with the link he clicked.

In systemd after voting for suckless

Now that he voted for it, the suckless comment has a +10 bonus, too. 91 + 10 being greater than 87 + 10, makes the suckless comment reach to the top! And that's a contribution he made, which kind of makes him feel like a king.

In the end, having learned about that, he probably will just stay away from Linux, because it apparently won't save him from the spies.

Brief look at the Profile, checking comment history

Something that we all do frequently, is to check our inbox, and look for the updates in our profile. By clicking on his name on the top left corner, he reaches to his profile.

In profile

It looks like a topic, and it actually really just is. He notes the following slight differences:

  • No red dot to the left of the topic's name, which was there to mark and follow a topic. (He cannot follow himself.)
  • The title of the topic is his username, and his name is written next to it.
  • He can delete and move tags, while he could only add.
  • There are 3 tabs on top of the comments: Comments, Marks (missing there) and Likes.
  • His plus one is actually a plus five here.
  • The points a comment has is blue instead of red, if he votes for it.

He remembers that first comment, but he doesn't remember that "Great!" at the end. Strange, he thought that he has an exceptional attention to details. Could he really be wrong?

Then he notices the clock sign right below the marked +5 of that comment. He then finds out that this post has a history and is now in relief. He clicks on that to check the history to make extra sure.

Edit history

A nice dimmed background brings the focus to the edit history. There he sees the 2 past versions of the comment. He also can see how many points that particular version had, right before getting edited to its next version. One thing he notices is that he voted for the second from below by checking out the colors of the points. (What if the comment was not inside the profile, how would the user know about this then?)

He gets out from the history by clicking over the dimmed background, and then navigates to the Marks he made.

In profile marks

There he is immediately at the "comment" subsection of the Marks, since the latest activity he made was voting for a comment in systemd.

Check the name change offers for a topic, or even maybe offer one!

Utkan is not so knowledgeable about systemd. In fact, he just learned about it! Still, he wonders what other names could have been offered for it by its contributors, so he brings his mouse over the systemd's title...

In systemd hover title

... to see that gorgeous feather and the underline, and then clicks on it to see the offers.

In systemd editing title

  • systemd, 37 points
  • Systemd, 5 points
  • system d, 2 points
  • system-d, 1 point

Nothing of interest. He notices the warning on the editing requirement, which he already knows about. One thing he can obtain from that screen, is that there had been 37 + 5 + 2 + 1 = 45 contributors to the topic which is called "systemd" now, because every contributor also implicitly votes for the title of its time.

Mobile Scenarios

Looking Board Games

One day , Furkan remembers his mum and dad are playing backgammon, and sometimes with their friends they playede rummikub. HE thought that are another games like that to play with his family. Then he started to search, he found numerous results, but everything is decoupled. He wants to only see the games together with some nice view. So he looks into Play Store and finds MEANCO.

Since He is not a member he clicks on Sign Up and enter his credentials on the Sign-Up popup.

After succesfull sign up his login information was created and system logs him in automatically and redirects him into Main Page.

There are recent topics in the main page but he doesn't interested in them, so he click on search button.

Then he writes Board Games and make a search among topics.

He clicks on Board Games and see the Zoomed-in view of the topic.

After clicking on the 3 dots below the screen , the view zooms out and he can see a more wide perspective of the topic.

Then he clicks on 3 dots below the screen to see a list of family related board games. It shows the list of the topics on same relation with a topic.

Then he goes back beacuse he wonders mind games.

He cliks on the relation Mind to see what are the other relations between Board Games and Mind Games.

Then he clisk right arrow to see Mind Games in detail.

After seeing the comments he decided to +1 the second comment. After voting it goes up with the doping point.

Then he finished his job and he click on the Profile button located in the top right corner of Main Screen.
