- Note: You can find the below informations about features
Features of applications
Location based post:
- People can share their photo or thougths.
Location based story:
- You can view Story content as many times as you want within that 24-hour period.
- Stories appear as little circles in the top of your followers’ feeds.
- users add clips of video to a story which is viewable for 24 hours before it vanishes.
Location based live-video:
- Followers get a push notification telling them you’re going live
- Followers can comment on or like your Live Video stream in real time
- The video is gone after you end it (it doesn’t save to your account)
Location based social-media-episode:
- That gives users the ability to share videos that are up to an hour long – like a TV episode.
Location based check-in:
- If a user wants to share their location, they can "Check In" to a specific venue and this location will be shared with their friends. Users can write a message with their check-in and mention (or check in) their friends at the venue with them. It is also possible to include a photo

Anonymity:
- Anonymity is very important because situations such as cyberbullying are vital in location-based applications and cause great harm to either people or the application. In addition, the variety of places related to sharing in terms of quantity or quality can increase the quality of in-app communication. If users want to hide their identities, they can use the application anonymously.
Age Restriction:
- As mentioned above, people under a certain age are prevented from using apps due to the damages that may arise as a result of the ability to track the location of people.
Badge System:
- Social networks are mostly driven by user-generated content, e.g., posts, photos and location checkins. To incentivize users’ participations and steer their online activities, many social networks start to offer users various kinds of rewards for their contributions to the networks.
Similar Applications
Swarm:
Foursquare Swarm is a mobile app that allows users to share their locations with their friends and create a record of their experiences in their personal lifelog. Swarm for iOS and Android devices launched on May 15, 2014. A spin-off from and companion app to Foursquare City Guide, Swarm allows users to check-in to a given location, and see who is nearby. These check-ins are chronologically listed to create a personal lifelog for each user, which serves as a digital library for all the places they’ve been, in a searchable database that can be revisited and shared.
Instagram:
Instagram (commonly abbreviated to IG or Insta) is an American photo and video sharing social networking service created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. In April 2012, Facebook acquired the service for approximately US$1 billion in cash and stock. The app allows users to upload media that can be edited with filters and organized by hashtags and geographical tagging. Posts can be shared publicly or with pre-approved followers. Users can browse other users' content by tags and locations and view trending content. Users can like photos and follow other users to add their content to a personal feed.
Glympse:
Glympse is a very simple application that provides communication between employee to employee, employee to consumer and consumer to consumer, based on live location sharing and notifications. For example, an employee responsible for 10 transport vehicles can see the live location of these 10 vehicles and receive a notification as to whether they are going to the places they need to go on time. It also has the chance to talk about it with those who are late or people on a bike trip can easily see each other's position.
- The issue I think about our application with glymspe is that it can be live location sharing in the application. In this way, while examining the photographs in the timeline of the Boğaziçi South Campus, we can click a photograph that attracts our attention and see the previous / next adventures/photos of the person who shared that photograph before/after there. In this way, it will be more meaningful.
YikYak:
YikYak was a social media platform very popular among the university students that is currently inactive. The user can post anonymously and view and rate others for their posts. It is divided into different geographical sections called Yak and the user can share on Yaks."You have come to a new city and have questions about the city", "you went to a place for a concert", in such cases, the variety of the yak offers an advantage.
- About Yikyak, I thought that anonymity is very important because situations such as cyberbullying are vital in location-based applications and cause great harm to either people or the application. In addition, the variety of places related to sharing in terms of quantity or quality can increase the quality of in-app communication.
Gowalla:
Gowalla is a social media application similar to Swarm. A different feature of Gowalla from other apps: "Trips", linked together up to 20 related spots, grouped into categories such as Nature Hikes or Pub Crawls. Users would occasionally receive a virtual "Item" as a bonus upon checking in, and these items could be swapped or dropped at other spots. Users became "Founders" of a spot by dropping an item there.
- People linking locations / photos can make them more meaningful. It can be nice to have both the suggestion of another person and the photos in a form of collage. Also, the badge system will be very useful for customer loyalty. It will push people to share more and make them feel special.
StoryPlace:
StoryPlace is a social platform where you can write, read or listen to stories from people all around the world.
- Share stories in a simplified text or audio format
- Read, write or listen to other people’s stories
- Search for stories based on topics, categories, tags or location
- Comment on people’s stories and engage in private conversations
- Follow your favorite storytellers.
- Contribute to featured or trending story topics.
