Exam 1 Study Guide
Testing Procedure
You will be taking your exam in GY447. You are allowed to utilized one 3x5 notecard and a calculator. You may use your phone as a calculator.
Exam Format
The exam will be comprised of:
- 10 multiple choice questions (5 points each)
- 5 short answer/problem solving questions (10 points each)
Exam Topics
- Basics of mbed
- Analyze a C program to describe it's functionality (example will come from work lab assignments).
- Ohm's Law
- Utilize formula to solve for V, I, or R in a circuit.
- Series and Parallel Resistor Networks
- Determine an equivalent resistance given a resistor network with parallel and series combinations of resistors.
- Kirchhoff's Current Law and Kirchhoff's voltage law
- Demonstrate understanding of these laws.
- Solve for an unknown voltage or current in a resistor network.
- Capacitors and Inductors
- Demonstrate understanding of differntial equations for capcitors and inductors.
- Solve for parallel and series capacitors and inductors.
- Analog Filters
- Demonstrate understanding of a time constant in an RC circuit.
- Determine voltage on a capacitor at a specific time using universal time constant equation.
- Design a low pass filter with a specfic time constant.
- Circuit board overview and Eagle Schematic Capture
- Understand circuit board terminology and board construction.
Approach to study for exam
The questions on the exam will be focused on topics that you worked with in lab or discussed in lecture.
- 1.) Study your notes and the lecture notes posted at: lecture notes
- 2.) Review the lab descriptions and your results.
- 3.) Review your notes from the assigned readings.
