Usage

This page explains the basic RustTube workflow.

Basic Download Flow

1. Start RustTube.
2. Paste a supported URL into the URL field.
3. Wait for the preview to load.
4. Choose a mode.
5. Choose a quality preset.
6. Select the target folder.
7. Start the download.

Download Modes

Video

Use this mode for normal video downloads.

RustTube will try to download a Windows-friendly result, usually with:

• MP4 video
• compatible merged output

Audio (MP3)

Use this mode to extract audio as MP3.

RustTube uses yt-dlp together with ffmpeg for conversion. When available, metadata and thumbnail embedding are also applied.

Manual yt-dlp Format

Use this mode if you want direct control over the exact format ID.

Workflow:

1. Click Load formats
2. Review the available format list
3. Choose the format you want
4. Start the download

Preview

When you paste a supported link, RustTube can show:

• thumbnail
• title
• creator
• duration
• source URL

Available preview actions:

• Open source
• Open image
• Save thumbnail

Output Log

The log area shows live output from yt-dlp.

It is useful for:

• checking progress
• spotting errors
• understanding format selection
• seeing post-processing steps

You can also use Follow latest to jump back to the newest log output.

Canceling Downloads

If a download is running, you can click Cancel.

RustTube will try to stop the related process cleanly and update the status accordingly.

Opening Folders

RustTube includes shortcuts for:

• target download folder
• tools installation folder
• settings folder
• program folder

These can be opened directly from the app.
