An estimated 85% of open positions are filled through networking...If this is true, that would explain all those cold interviews that don't pan out-with no callbacks, right?
- Sure, it looks like the reports are varying (according to the article) but if experts are saying 70%, and others (presumably non-experts) put that number more at 80 or 85%...that's STILL 70-85%!!! If you are keeping score, that would still be a significant majority.
Okay, so how best to go about it then? Just connect. Be sincere. Here are a few tips to get you started. STARTED. This is not a comprehensive list.
- Face-to-face.
- Be curious and interested...about them. Remember, connect! That's difficult if you're yammering on about yourself.
- Introverted? No worries...prepping some questions to have is fine.
- Invest some time.
