Project Meeting 2017.08.29 - bellevuewa/BKRCast GitHub Wiki

Training Agenda

  • 8:30 – 9:00 Review of Model System / Design
  • 9:00 – 9:30 Calibration/Validation Review
  • 9:30 – 9:45 Model Setup and Running the Model
  • Break: 9:45 – 10:00
  • 10:00 – 12:00 Walk through the model file directory/subdirectory and cover
    • Content and functions
    • What could be changed and for what reasons
    • Particularly the Coefficients folder:
      • Default settings and origin
      • Reasonable ranges
      • How to adjust them to make the model more or less sensitive
  • Lunch: 12:00 – 12:45
  • 12:45– 2:00 Creating New Scenarios
    • Land use scenarios
    • Network scenarios
    • TDM/policy scenarios
  • Break: 2:00 – 2:10
  • 2:10: – 3:30 Q and A

Introduction

  • Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, PSRC, and RSG present
  • The City is excited to start using the new model
  • Access to the employment data remains an issue that the Cities are working on; only onsite access is currently allowed

Documentation

  • Need to link to the TRB Planning Applications presentation on over/under sampling
  • Need to explain "skims" as network times and costs in the diagrams/text
  • Need to add some text explaining what the parcel buffering does and provide a couple brief examples
  • Need to explicitly mention that the employment data is copied from a secure location at the start of a model run and deleted afterwards
  • Need to add what buffer 1 and 2 mean -> 1/2 mile and 1 mile
  • PSRC share model estimation report/materials
  • Work at home is part of the usual work location model as its own nest - home - and then a nest for others zones
  • Need to add to Create a Scenario in the wiki: free transit pass by employer (work parcel?) and work at home
  • Need to add ideas/settings for modeling shop at home and value of time changes as well
  • Need to add a link to the paid ride mode additions

Model Setup

  • Parking capacities are used in various location choice models. See for example variable 19 in WorkLocationCoefficients.F12, which is workAwayFromHomeFlag * parcelParkingDensity. The parcel parking density is a measure of parking spaces to total employment.
  • Need to remove "create no toll network" setting since its not used
  • When new hhs need to be added/moved for a land use alternative, a simple script that samples hhs (and their persons) from a user-identified similar parcel/taz, should be a sufficient replacement for re-running the entire synpop process.
  • Need to provide Jacksonville DaySim script that does something similar
  • Need to add ability to specify free transit pass by employer (work parcel?)

Next Steps

  • PSRC share MOVES emission rate tables and scripts for emissions calculations
  • Redmond plans to eventually compare the survey add-on to the Redmond specific model results; RSG to make sure the addon data analysis has everything needed
  • PSRC and Bellevue working on rebuilding a synpop with better worker data
  • Bellevue likely to join PSRC's DaySim maintenance and support contract, which is targeted for Jan 2018
