Mesh Parts and Slots - Excel with pictures of different mesh parts, where to find them in Frosty Editor, and which slot they are in
Basic Tutorial
By violadesdragons
Basic steps I do though:
-
Find meshes I like (example lucanis accessories from his outfit 01). Open mesh to confirm its what I want. Leave folder open to come back shortly.
-
Go to the item part appearance section (a la swap guide). Once there, select armor I want to replace (I usually do the Dalish robes under casual because it’s the watcher robes and that’s easy to find in transmog in game for testing. You could also do AGT under entitlements for the n7 day gear). Once I pick one, I open it and open the drop-down tabs to show the part slots (again à la swap guide).
-
Find the item simple part piece for the part I want to add (in my current example it would be where my Luca accessories are).
-
Slot that into the Dalish robe or whatever armor I’m swapping with (note they don’t have to be 1:1 for the slot on the armor you are putting it into; it’s more like you can’t add more than one of any particular slot, so for example my Luca accessories (if I open the simple item I can see what slot it is) are the belt slot, so I couldnt add the grey warden dagger belt because it is also belt slot). So now I follow the swap guide again to swap the piece I want in (if an armor only has say 3 pieces and I want more, just click the plus icon in the part appearances area where you are doing the swapping.).
-
So we go open that root level and description file (a la swap guide). Keep it open. While it’s open navigate in your file explorer to your Luca accessories (or whatever you’re swapping in) and see what bundles it’s in by clicking the “bundles” tab in the bottom central window in FE. There will be all the bundles the item is referenced in. Idk what ones exactly you need but I usually do any that are like “factions”, “gameplay” or “rpg” and it’s been okay so far. So you can copy and paste them straight out of that window. Omit any win32/ or other prefixes that may show there, also don’t take the / after win32 that borked it for me earlier. Then once copy we look at our description file, still open. Look at the bundle line, click the plus, navigate to the line we just added and paste that bad boy in.
-
Rinse and repeat for other pieces until we create a beautiful monstrosity
Speaking of mashups you can visually test them in the editor itself. In the scene tab, additional meshes.
First click + so you get a drop down like in the image. + for each part you want to add to the viewport
Have a skinnedmeshasset selected in your left panel, then click on the arrow > where it says null
Here is a file of fbprojects of some mash ups to check out and get started with: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/157CdXGFsKP9w_zJk9gpLnYhLbtNcWU1D
*note some of the files bundles are messy because these were also used for me to test some other random things. I’m a messy mod maker sorry.
The files are also names with acronyms of the faction items I used or the rook I originally created them for. Ex: VJ is veiljumper and mixes some of Bellaras gear like earrings with other outfits.
Below are some images of the mash ups included in the files. Also you can find the accessories as hats file if you wish to see what accessories can become hats for your swaps or mash ups.
