Journal Entry 2: Docker Setup - bcb420-2022/Sabbir_Hossain GitHub Wiki

Table of Contents

Objective

The objective of this journal entry is to document and reflect on the process during the installation and exploration process for the Docker software. Understand and work through the process of installing the software that can be found here, then create a new image container from the BCB420 docker file.

  • Time Est.: 1 hr
  • Time Used: 3 hrs

Progress & Notes

Completed the download of the Docker software. Installed it as well, also had WSL update installed. Had a lot of issues getting it installed on my windows machine running Linux, and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't so I need to figure that out for the time being. Was able to do the exercise on Rstdio just to make sure I was up to practice with my Rcode. Will obviously reattempt it on my troubleshot Docker again.

Activates & Tasks

  • download and install docker
  • create a new image and container from the BCB420 docker file.
  • document it

Conclusion, Outlook, & Discussion

I have it installed and it has the repository from docker, i.e. the docker image cloned onto the local machine but sometimes it runs and sometimes it doesn't. I may have to reinstall and try again to see if that fixes the issues...again.
