Usage ‐ SLM ‐ Bookmarked Programs ‐ Advanced Selections and Overrides - babsonnexus/stream-link-manager-for-channels GitHub Wiki

Users have the opportunity to adjust certain metadata related fields when adding or modifying a movie, episode, or video, although selections vary by the type.

Movie

Episode

Video

These include:

  • Episode/Video Title: Changing the name of the individual episode/video that is shown. Note that overriding the Title for Movies, TV Shows, and Video Groups is done at the program level

  • Summary: The description for the individual item.

  • Image: The picture that is visible for the individual item.

  • Duration: A time in seconds for the length of the item. For instance, 3600 = 60 minutes = 1 hour.

All of these fields can be manually adjusted. However, it is possible to get values directly from the source using the Import action.

NOTE: For Movies, you select the Import action at the program level. It will fill in the details at the lower level, too.

There are two different sources for this metadata. With Movies and TV Show episodes, these will come from JustWatch and reflect the data as seen on that website. However, it does not have to. If a Movie, Episode, or Video is set to a Special Action of Make SLM Stream, and a valid link has been entered for the Stream Link/File Override / Video Link, the information will be pulled from the link's source. Here are a few examples:

  • A TV Show with Episode metadata pulled from JustWatch

  • A TV Show with Episode metadata pulled from YouTube

  • A Video Group with Video metadata pulled from YouTube

This includes the Original Release Date that is read-only to users and can be used for sorting in Video Groups. For Movies and TV Show Episodes, this item will still be pulled from JustWatch so as not to be confused with upload dates. Also, even if you are not importing metadata, the Original Release Date is still loaded and updated whenever possible.

In either case, once the other values are imported, you are free to edit it any way you see fit. It will only reset if you do a fresh import again or if certain special conditions are met that would trigger a refresh, such as an episode title being named something like "Episode 1", but then only for the offending field.

NOTE: These fields are automatically populated when you bookmark Videos. Details are available here.

What is most powerful is that when Streaming Library Manager is integrated with a media server like Channels DVR, these items can be pushed to that interface. As an example, here we can see the Image link that was imported directly from a YouTube video:

Once refreshed to Channels DVR, this same image and all other pertinent details are available:

To be clear, though, these functions can be very useful in non-video situations. One use case might be related to organizing streaming sports content and getting important details into Channels DVR.

Here, there is a TV Show for the sport, but we have created episodes that are not available in Gracenote or TheMovieDB in order to have them under a single "season". Additionally, we have added/imported information like the "episode titles" and the "duration".
