Automation allows users to execute specialized tasks to run various steps to help manage their media or deal with specific issues/use cases. These often consist of elements related to setting timing, frequency, and other details. For the most part, current and future automation options are Off by default with a time of whenever they are added. However, there are a few related to program performance that begin in the On position. Either way, it is up to the user to decide if they want to schedule, run only demand, or not use at all.

As an example, there is the Automation for Reset Channels DVR Passes.

As the description shows, this will pause and resume all active passes in Channels DVR (hence the Channels DVR Interface is required to be on to have this available). This specific sequence was created to resolve an issue where sometimes a lower priority pass is used for scheduling a future recording and—when the guide updates—the lower priority is maintained instead of shifting to the higher priority. When this runs, all scheduled recordings are reset to their expected settings.

Depending upon your choices in Settings, the options within those Scheduler tasks will change. For instance, in the Stream Links/Files: End-to-End Process, several steps are taken. These can all be seen and initiated using the Run button.

These tasks are:

  • Update the Streaming Services for any new or removed providers
  • Check for new episodes of bookmarked shows
  • Import from Channels DVR any Movies and Episodes that have been watched and deleted, marking them as "watched" in SLM
  • Find and assign valid Stream Links to bookmarked Movies and Episodes
  • In Channels DVR, initiate several steps to make new programs appear, have deleted ones be removed, and update specific files to use revised links

As noted, these can all be done manually, and your options will be different whether you are using the Channels DVR Integration or not.

In all cases, it is recommended to set a schedule to run automatically at some point during the day. Note that this particular process can take a significant amount of time, depending upon the number of Movies and Episodes that you have bookmarked. Also, the clock shown should match your system and locale settings. After an automation is complete, you can see pertinent notifications in the Home area (newest on top), such as if there are changes to Streaming Services or new episodes were added.

If you are looking for additional details on what has transpired, you can see that in the Logs.
