Dithmenos - b-crawl/bcrawl GitHub Wiki

The new version of Dithmenos is focused around the Shadow Step ability.

Shadow Step costs only 1 piety and has a 4-turn exhaustion timer, so it can be used multiple times in a single fight. It teleports you next to a (non-insubstantial) enemy in your umbra, leaving behind a shadow (basically a ghost) of yourself for 2 + Invocations/3 turns.

There are 3 basic character types that benefit most from Dithmenos:

  • stabbers gain a stealth bonus from the umbra, and can teleport to stab enemies
  • melee characters with high-base-damage weapons and high weapon skill make shadows with high melee damage, and can survive being next to enemies
  • mages don't want to be next to enemies, but shadows with certain spells are very powerful

Shadows with direct-damage spells (like Throw Icicle or Iron Shot) are very effective. At high Invocations skill, summoning spells become more effective, because the shadows last longer. Shadows can even have Fire Storm and Glaciate, but area-of-effect damage spells might cause more problems for the player than monsters.
