The team did an initial drive around to get a lay of the land:
They determined that the hacienda was surrounded by wooden planks, and locked from within by a padlock. Someone was smoking and patrolling inside, carrying a rifle.
The house is surrounded by brick walls. There are two guards at the entrance, along with a wrought iron gate.
The team returned at sunset.
They climb over the gate and remove the padlock from the inside using bolt cutters. They enter and subdue the guard, tying him up.
Attempting to enter the basement, they find a newly constructed metal door, but the bolt cutters remove the padlock and they enter.
The find an empty room, with two exits in the direction of the house. One is an old Aztec era wide tunnel that can be accessed through an arch. The other one runs parallel to the Aztec tunnel but it is of much newer construction (as in, max a month or two old), and has running bulb lights hanging from the ceiling.
The investigators follow the narrower tunnel, and mid-way they find a metallic door to the left (the tunnel continues in the direction to the house). Entering the (unlocked) door, they arrive to a high-tech control room for a recording studio. Two massive windows open to two recording rooms. The one on the left is shuttered, the one in the right is not. There are master records for 5 records / songs, titled:
- De La Luz
- Cancion del Cuco
- Armonia de los Dioses
- Caricia de los labios
- Grunido de la montana
The investigators play the last one, and experience a trance-like state, where they remember a mountain with a massive gash on the side that opens to a fleshy gullet/throat-like opening inside it. The investigators are compelled to draw what the remember. They take the master records.
The continue and they find an inner hall with several doors. The ones to the left and right, the investigators presume that they lead to the recording studios. The one purely to the north and the one to the north west, are unclear where they go.
They open the door to the recording studio that was shuttered, which they find after going through a sound isolation chamber. Investigating the studio, they find a secret door.
They go through it and find themselves inside a much larger Aztec chamber (as big as a house size recording studio has been built inside). They see the other end of the Aztec tunnel going back. Going around the chamber they see that there is another door to the north of the recording studio, potentially the one that they saw from the inner hall. The only other thing is a beautiful and very wide set of stairs of Aztec period going down. From there, they hear a song in the distance, it is the same song that they played earlier “Grunido de la montana”, but much more powerful, as it seems like there are two voices singing it in harmony.
The room that was unexplored is a kitchen. There is no evidence of usage ever.
The air is cool and feels a bit humid and mossy coming from up from the stairs. There is no current of air.
Downstairs there are two guys, one is filling in vials with nectar from a bucket, the other one is bringing a bucket with nectar from a corridor to the east to fill it in. They are ambushed and subdued. Nolan keeps 12 vials full with nectar.
The corridor to the south leads to a ramp ending with a collapsed wall.
The east corridor contains a massive mouth in a pool of nectar at the bottom of a 30 feet pit that breaks the corridor in two disconnected sections. On the other side of the corridor there is a chamber.
The investigators discuss whether to use the plank to cross the pit or to make a makeshift lid for the pit. They decide to use the pit.
As Miguel starts crossing very carefully and without looking down, a massive tongue shoots up and wraps around him, killing him instantly. The rest of the investigators unload their guns into the tongue which releases Miguel, but does not seem too damaged by the bullets. The investigators see how over a short period of time, the flesh of the tongue expels the bullets and closes the holes.
With all the shooting, somebody pokes out of the room on the other side of the corridor. Mikhail shoots immediately blowing him against the wall with a hole in his chest.
Leticia drags herself to the fallen man, screaming “Jonathan mi amor”. She is disfigured with a second mouth orthogonal to her regular (expanded) mouth and heavily pregnant. Mikhail shoots Leticia.
The investigators take the body of Miguel out of the tunnels.
Mikahil manages to organise 7 sticks of dynamite (by 1am). Then goes to make arrangements to carry the body of Miguel back to LA and organises reports to Robert (telegram) and to Janet (get her to talk to Robert to console him).
Nolan goes down with 5 sticks of dynamite, and leaves another 2 with the group, then drops the two subdued guards into the hole to be eaten alive by the mouth as a distraction (throwing some crosses for good measure), also a bucket with 5 sticks of dynamite rigged to explode. The massive explosion collapses the tunnel and shakes the whole area.
