A School Concert
Yesterday, in the middle of autumn, our school planned a big concert. "This will be great," said Mr. Johnson, our teacher, who was on duty that day. I felt so excited that I couldn’t sleep the night before. "Don’t worry," Mom said at breakfast, pouring juice into my glass. "You’ll do fine."
The concert was in the school hall, and we started preparing after lunch. My classmates and I were busy decorating. "Let’s hang some posters around the room," suggested Lisa, my best friend. We used bright colors like red and green, and I drew a picture of a tall tree in the corner. "That looks good," Mr. Johnson said, smiling.
I was part of the music group, and my favorite thing was to sing pop songs. "We need to practice chemistry teamwork," Mr. Johnson joked, but he meant we had to work together well. "Which song should we choose?" I asked. "How about ‘Happy Days’?" said Tom, and we all agreed. It was so popular that everyone knew it.
By noon, the hall was almost ready. We set up chairs in rows, and I carried a basket of flowers to put on the stage. "Be careful not to trip," warned Mr. Johnson, but I was too busy to worry. The stage was high, and I felt a little nervous, but Lisa said, "You’ll be fine. You’re good at this."
The concert began at three o’clock. Parents and students filled the seats, and the temperature in the room rose a bit. "Welcome," said Mr. Johnson, standing in front. "Today, we’ll have a tour of talent!" First, the drama club acted out a funny story about a duck and a sheep. "That was hilarious," I whispered to Lisa, and we laughed.
Then it was our turn. "Come on, you can do it," Dad shouted from the audience, wearing his old sweater. I stepped onto the stage, my heart beating fast. "Sing loud," I told myself, and we started. The song was so catchy that people clapped and sang along. "You’re doing great!" yelled my classmate Jack from the side.
After the song, we had a break. I ate some bread and vegetables Mom packed, and drank water to cool down. "This is better than doing housework," I said, and Lisa nodded. "In fact, it’s the best day ever." We sat in the garden outside for a few minutes, breathing in the fresh air.
Later, there was a science show. A scientist from town demonstrated how to make a small rocket. "This is so interesting," I thought, getting interested in science for the first time. "Perhaps I’ll be a scientist in the future," I told Dad, and he smiled. "That would be a fine plan."
By supper time, the concert was almost over. "Let’s clean up," Mr. Johnson said. We swept the floor and picked up rubbish, working together until the hall was clean again. "You did a wonderful job," he said, handing out prizes. I won a cheap book about sports, which was my favorite thing.
As we left, the sun was setting in the west, casting a golden light over the school. "Goodbye," I waved to my friends, feeling happy but a little lonely as I walked home alone. However, I knew I’d see them tomorrow. "Next time, let’s plan a concert in May," I said to Lisa, and she agreed.
That night, I wrote a letter to my grandma, telling her all about it. "The concert was a success," I wrote, filling the page with details. I fell asleep, dreaming of singing on stage and rockets flying high, knowing this memory would stay with me forever.
