A Rainy School Day

It was a rainy Saturday in February, and I woke up feeling hungry. "Oh no," I thought, "I hope I’m not late for school!" My mom was in the kitchen, making dumplings. "Hurry up," she said, "or you’ll miss the bus." I grabbed my bag, filled with books and a tape of my favorite song, and ran out the door.

At first, the rain was light, but by the time I reached the bus station, it was pouring. "What a pity," I said to myself. The bus was late, and I stood beside a neighbour who was also waiting. "This weather is really bad," he said, and I nodded. Finally, the bus arrived, and we got on, wet but safe.

At school, the halls were busy. My friend Tom and I went to our classroom, where Mr. Lee, our teacher, was already there. "Good morning," he said with a smile. "Today, we’ll work out a problem in mathematics." I sat near the window, watching the rain shine on the glass. The sound of it made me wonder if the day would be boring.

After class, we had basketball practice. "Be careful," Mr. Lee warned, "the court might be slippery." Tom and I played, passing the ball one after another. "You’re getting better," he said, and I felt proud. But then I tripped and hurt my leg. "It’s not serious," I told Mom later, "just a small bruise."

At lunch, we ate in the cafeteria. The dish of the day was chicken and rice, and it tasted excellent. "I’m thirsty," said my friend Lily, so we shared a glass of water. "Let’s listen to the radio," Tom suggested, and we heard a story about a farmer in the south who grows thousands of flowers.

In the afternoon, we had a surprise. Mr. Lee brought out a CD and played music. "Let’s dance!" he said, and everyone laughed. "This is more fun than copying notes," I whispered to Lily. After that, we had a discussion about animals. "Did you know elephants can weigh tons?" Tom asked, and I nodded, impressed by his knowledge.

Later, I went to the library to borrow a book. The librarian, Miss Jane, helped me find a story about London. "It’s pretty there," she said, showing me pictures of the city. I also saw a note on the wall about a cinema trip next month. "I wish I could go," I thought.

Just now, the bell rang, and we lined up to go home. "Wait for me," I called to Tom, who was already ahead. The rain had stopped, but the ground was still wet. On my way, I stopped at a store to buy a ticket for a school play in October. "It costs nine dollars," the clerk said, and I paid with my allowance.

At home, Mom was fixing dinner. "How was your day?" she asked. "It was clear and fun, except for the rain," I said. We sat down to eat, and I told her about the basketball game and the CD. "I’m glad you had a good time," she said, smiling.

That night, I wrote in my diary: "Today was rainy, but it turned out great. I never thought a rainy day could be so interesting." I fell asleep, dreaming of ships sailing through the ocean and farmers working in the fields. In the end, it was an excellent day, and I was ready for more adventures.
