A Day at the Beach

It was a sunny Wednesday, and my family decided to spend the day at the beach. "From now on, we should do this every weekend," my mom said. I agreed with her, imagining a whole summer of fun. My dad packed a cooler with ice-cream, and my little sister brought her blue umbrella and a piece of chalk to draw on the sand.

We left our hometown early and drove along the river until we reached the beach. It was quite large, with white sand and a clear blue sky. "This is going to be great!" I said, kicking off my shoes and socks. The sand felt comfortable under my feet as I stepped onto it.

My dog, Max, ran ahead, wagging his tail. "Stay close, Max!" I called. He was always lively, chasing sticks and barking at the waves. Nearby, a Canadian tourist was building a sandcastle with his kids. "Can we help?" I asked. "Yes, of course!" he replied, and we worked together to make a wall around it.

At the beach, there were lots of people—some playing ping-pong, others kicking a ball. A group of monkeys in a nearby tree watched us, which made us laugh. "Look at them!" my sister said. "They’re so funny." We also saw a boat on the water and a policeman on the shore, making sure everything was OK.

For lunch, we sat at a table under a big umbrella. Mom unpacked sandwiches, and Dad poured oil on the salad. "This is enough food for seven of us," he joked, even though there were only six. After eating, we relaxed on our towels. "Let’s not be lazy," I said. "How about a swim?"

We changed into our swimsuits and ran to the water. It was fast and cool, and I felt the waves splash my face. "Be careful!" Mom shouted, but we were having too much fun to stop. My sister and I built a sandcastle next to the water, using shells and sticks we found.

Later, a movie screen was set up on the beach for a free film. "Let’s watch!" said my friend Lisa, who joined us. We sat on the sand, and the movie started. It was about a dog and a monkey who become best friends. "That’s just like Max!" I whispered, and everyone laughed.

After the movie, we played a game. "I’ll be the monitor," I said, making sure everyone followed the rules. We kicked a ball around, and I heard someone say, "You’re quite good at this!" It was the tourist from earlier, who was now cheering for us.

As the sun set, we packed up. "Time to come back to the car," Dad said. We took down our umbrella and gathered our things. On the way, we stopped at a library near the beach to use the bathroom. "Maybe next time, we can bring our guitars and have a concert," I suggested.

At home, I checked my e-mail and saw a message from Lisa. "Today was the best!" it said. I smiled, thinking about how much progress we made in having fun. "From now on, let’s always go to the beach on Thursdays," I told my family. They agreed, and we planned to return next week.

As I lay in bed, I thought about the day. The beach, the activities, the people—it was all perfect. "I miss it already," I mumbled, but I knew we’d be back soon. It was a day full of laughter, sun, and memories, and I couldn’t wait for the next adventure.
