Psychological Safety

  1. What are three key factors that contribute to psychologically safe teams?

Making sure that there was an understanding of equality of conversation within a group. Members of a group have a sense of social sensitivity, reading cues from group members knowing others felt based on their tone of voice, their expressions and other nonverbal cues. Team members making sure that among the group should be a safe place for all members to feel comfortable to share ideas.

  1. Evaluate, with details, a previous professional setting (or team) you were in with regards to psychological safety.

Although during my previous employment i worked mostly alone, every friday my garage at AT&T would hold a team meeting to discuss new policies, current state of the company also thoughts and suggestions to improve our work life. My Coworkers would constantly talk over each other and laugh at each others ideas when having a chance to speak. I would never speak during these times as i felt my thoughts and feelings would not be heard.

  1. What impact do teams that operate with a high degree of psychological safety have on their company and the team members?

I feel teams that has a high degree of psychological safety within a company will have higher productivity, plus better communication within each other. My previous job had a very high turnover rate i believe has to do with having poor safety team practices. Through experience my coworkers had miserable looks on their faces every morning due to the nature of the job, especially team work practices. Teams with high degrees enjoy the job more because their opinions matter. due to human nature, no one wants to feel like they don't have a voice as this can mess with the psychology of how a person feels.
