Backup Policy

In Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), the Gold, Silver, and Bronze backup policies are the Oracle-defined backup policies that provide standardized schedules and retention periods. They’re designed to give you simple, ready-to-use options without needing to configure custom rules.

Gold Policy

• Frequency: Daily backups.

• Retention: Longer retention period (often 30 days or more).

• Use Case: Mission-critical workloads that require maximum protection and longer history of backups.

Silver Policy

• Frequency: Weekly backups.

• Retention: Moderate retention period (around 4 weeks).

• Use Case: Important workloads where daily backups aren’t necessary but weekly snapshots provide sufficient coverage.

Bronze Policy

• Frequency: Monthly backups.

• Retention: Shorter retention period (typically 12 weeks).

• Use Case: Non-critical workloads, test environments, or systems where minimal backup is acceptable.
