Example - arnaud-reveillere/SAMBA GitHub Wiki

In order to compare the semi-analytical model to a numerical one, we consider the case of 2 connected aquifers modeled using the geometry below. Parameters and details are given in Réveillère (2013), the input file is given in the manual and is available on GitHub.

The TOUGH2 grid, input and output files used for this example and others from the TiPM article are available here in the 7zip compression format.

Numerical grid

200 m3/h of brine is injected at the "Storage injection" point during the first five years. Several cases of bottom aquifer salinity are considered, from 14% to 0.1% of dissolved salts. The leakage rate is given below, both using the TOUGH2 numerical simulator and the SAMBA solution.

numerical vs. SAMBA comparison. Example 1

This shows a good agreement of both results, which have required approximately 10000 times less ressources using the semi-analytical estimation. Note that the difference in light blue at 10 years is an artifact of numerical resolution (numerical diffusion).
