General Tips

Put the foreground to one side or corner of the frame

Put your foreground to one of the sides or corners of your frame. You shouldn't put your foreground right in the middle of the frame unless you can synchronize the background with the foreground.

Use lower Field of View (FOV)

Start with 25° FOV or less shots first. Get comfortable with composing your pictures, like an artist would sketch with his canvas. When you are comfortable with using low FOV, you can start experimenting with different FOV degrees.

Use a reasonable amount of Depth of Field (DOF)

DOF usage depends on the situation, for example, shooting closeups may require higher DOF versus shooting motion shots. Try to build the depth in your photo than force the audience to stare at the foreground. You can think of providing just the right amount of depth in your shot like sprinkling enough salt to "bring out" the flavor but not to taste the salt itself.

Use a reasonable amount of sharpening

Like using DOF, sharpening must be used moderately. You can get away with as much sharpening as long the image does not start having halo effects anywhere. There is a in-depth article by Cambridge in Colour on how sparpening works fundamentally.

In-Game Workflow

Important information:

  • Do not use Assetto Corsa's PHOTO MODE; only use CSP Photo app.
  • Screenshots must be made in-game with REPLAY MODE.
    • Motion shots are not possible without Replay mode
    • CSP graphical features do not work in AC Showroom

There are two free roam cameras, F5 cam and F7 cam. F5 camera directly links car movement to the camera while F7 camera is unlinked from the car. Both cameras have different movement and controls. It is recommended to only use F7 camera rather than F5 camera because it provides more realistic blurring by allowing camera panning/zooming.

Motion shot workflow:

  • Turn on outline, the outline color should be a bright contrasting color
  • Position camera angle
  • Turn on motion shot
  • Set shot Duration
  • Align to desired focus of trailing foreground

Camera Controls

- F5 Camera F7 Camera
Movement WASD Arrow keys
Roll F/G None, use Photo app
Pitch B/V None, use Photo app
Up/Down C/Z Page Up/Page Down
FOV Numpad +/- Scroll wheel Up/Down
Speed Tab/Shift Ctrl/Shift
Focus Camera

Ctrl and Left Mouse Button or just End key

You can Ctrl+LMB on a slider in Photo app to type in custom values. It's helpful when you're trying to dial in DOF through transparent objects or rolling the camera.
