The Ahkraam are intelligent the first inhabitants of Seriqui and the only inhabitants to not arrive from other worlds or created by beings from other worlds. The are a symbiotic co-species in which a plant body forms around its fungal core and has both males and females. Its instinct and aggression come from its plant side and Its emotions and ego come from its fungal brain. Their specialized cell walls is more elastic than most plants and feels similar to skin when touched. When two ahkraam breed the female lays a clutch of three to twelve eggs. Though any two ahkraam of the appropriate genders can mate they only retain the bonuses of their casts when the greed within them. The Ahkraam people demand the the continuation of their tradition and generally have fear and mistrust of the uncasted children known widely as the Unclean.
There has been a cast system that fragments the people since the first trees were read by the first ahkraam. It is still forbidden to bread outside your cast. The four casts are named for their earliest recorded embers and are as follows.

Cast aside there are certain traits that all ahkraam share.

Smell Emotion & Scent

All ahkraam can sense the slightest smell of the air. Part of natural communication between ahkraam involves standing close enough smell each other as a sign of trust and to insure honesty. They gain the 9 again quality on empathy roles made to determine the emotions of biological beings and gain a automatic role empathy role to determine weather they notice a lie when it occurs. Fear smells particularly strong to them and they notice fear without a role. This tendency towards absolute honesty can be more of a determinant than a help when dealing with non ahkraam however...

Drawbacks

Uncomfortable Honesty

The ahkraam tendency towards brutal honesty can rub most other beings the wrong way. Because of this other beings that know of ahkraam ways tend to try to keep their distance from them and avoid conversation with them whenever possible. Members of the church of Aemon ignore the presence of ahkraam as if the don't exist and only acknowledge them in most cases when they have directly wronged them or threatened them. Because of this they have a racial -4 penalty on social roles when dealing with non ahkraam and automatically fail social roles on members of the Church of Aemon.

Inhuman mind

Ahkraam have minds that communicate through chemical rather than electrical signals. Because of this humanoids and other non plant or fungus based beings receive a - 2 penalty and do not receive the 8, 9 or 10 again qualities on mind affecting attempts of any nature. Unfortunately this difference effects the ahkraam as well and they also receive these penalties as well when dealing with non plant or fungus lifeforms. Also because of their unique brains they require the Read the Fungus merit before purchasing second sight merits. All effects become biological in function and any non damage effect is treated as a poison effect as it is being caused by spores or pheromones.

The Ahkraam can trace their beginnings to the forests of Dordoon. They tell a story of being created by a being called Myconid in order to protect the planet from corruption.

Lifespan

Ahkraam are like the trees they love and worship. They can live on through the ages if they feel the need but often wither earlier on that. They grow from baby to a young adult in only three years and then they go from young adult to adult in ten years at which point their growth greatly slows. Ahkraam do not ever become venerable and instead keep growing. They do usually though start to instinctively want to die at around 8 or 9 hundred years old this does not always happen. When the ahkraam people are perceived to be in crisis an ahkraam may choose to keep growing and resist the call to death. Every 100 years they are alive after that point increases their size by one. The gain all of the benefits their increased size. At 1000 years of age they must either die in combat or commit Zonkuska(Suicide) or else be hunted down and killed by their kin for being a perceived threat to all life. This is due to an ahkraam doing this and conquering the world by force before the other races had arrived and their fear of it happening again.
