Better Performance Settings (OptiFine) - antibang/BaerCraft GitHub Wiki

These settings should help your game run smoother if you're experiencing troubles with low FPS or lag. These should also help with people who are having some trouble just loading into the pack. If these do not help, either you do not have enough RAM allocated or your hardware is just not strong enough to run BaerCraft.

Sometimes more mods to improve performance is not better. If you wish to look into an alternative method to improve performance, you can go here to learn about JVM flags that greatly improve BaerCraft's performance. Although, it is still recommended to use OptiFine along with the flags.

BaerCraft does not take all that many resources to run (when comparing to other modpacks), but sometimes certain PCs will need a little extra love to get things running and playable.

Below I've included 2 files. For them to work you MUST HAVE OPTIFINE HD U G8 INSTALLED IN THE BAERCRAFT PROFILE, or else these settings will not apply. These settings should help, as they should take a decent amount of stress of your CPU and GPU allowing for more smooth gameplay.

Where do I put these 2 files? -

You need to drop options.txt AND optionsof.txt directly inside of your BaerCraft profile. If you have launched the game, the options.txt file should already exist, but if you haven't installed OptiFine, the optionsof.txt will not exist yet.

The install location should be Users -> username -> curseforge -> minecraft -> Instances -> BaerCraft. Then just simply drag and drop those 2 files into the profile. You can also locate the profile's folder more easily by right clicking the profile and selecting "Open Folder",

You can adjust the settings like the maximum FPS limit, and a few other things, but if you were having trouble running it before, I would suggest not touching very much. Additionally, I suggest turning on "Render Regeions" ONLY if you DO NOT have an integrated GPU. Most of the time, this is the case for laptops. That's why I did not enable it myself, as most of the time, people who have trouble running the pack are the ones who use laptops.

The render regions option can be found here: Video Settings -> Performance... -> Render Regions

The smooth FPS option from OptiFine can actually cause your frames to become worse. I suggest turning this option to true for a few minutes to see how your FPS is, then changing it back to false. Run that for a few minutes as well, then compare the results. I actually gained 20+ frames from turning this option to false, and noticed a bit less sudden frame drops and stutters.
