A simple way for creating mbtiles is the Qtiles Plugin for QGIS.

Installation

• Plugin Manager
• Enable Experimental Plugins
• Install Qtiles

Usage

Create your GIS project in QGIS as you want it displayed and then access the qtiles plugin from the plugin menu at the top.

Basemaps

You can include Open Street Map basemaps using the Openlayers plugin but only openstreetmaps, google imagery causes a segmentation fault with Qtiles

Known Issues

• Transparency doesn't seem to work
• Can't export with google imagery
