Frog Variant System

The Frog Variant System determines which frog variant spawns in a given biome.
It's important to note that Swampier Swamps does not change the biomes where frogs naturally spawn. Just like in vanilla Minecraft, frogs will only spawn in Swamp and Mangrove Swamp biomes. To obtain other frog variants, you need to catch a tadpole and bring it to the desired biome, where it will grow into the corresponding variant.

How It Works

The system checks each frog variant sequentially and assigns it to a biome if there is a match. Once a variant finds a valid biome, the selected variant will be used for spawning. If multiple variants share the same biome, the one that appears first in the check order will be selected.

Check Order

The variants are checked in the following order:

  1. White
  2. Orange
  3. Magenta
  4. Light Blue
  5. Yellow
  6. Lime
  7. Pink
  8. Gray
  9. Light Gray
  10. Cyan
  11. Purple
  12. Blue
  13. Brown
  14. Green
  15. Red
  16. Black

Default Behavior (Vanilla Minecraft)

If no matches are found inside the swampier swamps frog tags, the system falls back to the default configuration:

  • #spawns_cold_variant_frogs (for cold biomes)
  • #spawns_warm_variant_frogs (for warm biomes)
  • If the biome is not on either list, the Temperate (Orange) Frog is selected as the default variant.

Getting Them With a Command

In order to spawn a frog with a certain variant you simply need to specify the variant when using the summon command.
Here is an example on how a white frog can be spawned:
/summon minecraft:frog ~ ~ ~ {variant:"swampier_swamps:white_variant"}
For other variants (except the 3 vanilla ones) simply replace white with the color you want.
For the vanilla ones use the vanilla variants:

  • minecraft:temperate - For the Orange Frogs
  • minecraft:warm - For the Light Gray Frogs
  • minecraft:cold - For the Green Frogs
