Troubleshooting

The app looks like the old version

Argus is a PWA with a service worker โ€” over HTTPS (or on localhost) only. There, when a new version is deployed a bar offers Reload; over plain http to a LAN address there is no worker and no bar, and a normal reload is enough. If you never see it, force it โ€” Ctrl+Shift+R on a desktop, or close and reopen the tab on a phone. Almost every "that feature isn't there" turns out to be this.

The phone asks for the token every time, or I scan the QR code every time

The token is kept by the browser that opened the link (localStorage, and a cookie the server sets so even a cleared page gets it back โ€” for a config or a device token, per address). Asked again means a different browser: the scanner's embedded one โ€” open the link in Chrome or Safari once; Argus offers the button when it sees it is in one โ€” or a different address (the IP one day, the hostname the next), which a browser treats as another site. Argus offers one QR code, at the address to use (address in the config, else the machine's full name), and when it is opened at another it offers to move there, token included. Safari also clears a site's storage after seven days without a visit; the server's cookie covers that.

Words repeat themselves when I type on a phone

Android's predictive keyboard delivers the commit of a word as an input event of its own, on top of what the composition already produced, so the terminal receives it twice. Argus drops a second identical chunk within 250ms of a composition ending. If it still happens, say which keyboard: the guard is deliberately narrow so that a keyboard which does not duplicate never loses a word.

Back to the live end (the โ†“ over the terminal) does not bring me back

It asks tmux to leave copy-mode, so it only works when tmux is holding the history. When a program has taken the mouse โ€” an agent's own transcript view, a pager โ€” that program is scrolling itself and only its own key returns to the end. Scroll with ^B [ instead and the button works.

A localhost link opens on nothing

http://localhost:5002 printed in a session is correct on the machine and meaningless on the phone reading it. Argus can serve it for you, but only with --allow-proxy. Without it, the link says so rather than opening a dead tab.

Ctrl+C does not copy

In a terminal Ctrl+C is SIGINT and has to stay SIGINT. Use the โง‰ button: it takes the browser selection, or tmux's paste buffer when there is none.

A prompt lands in the agent's box but does not send

It should not any more โ€” but if it happens, it is nearly always the pause. The text goes in one write and the return follows in another, and an agent that assembles a paste needs a gap between the two or it takes the return as more of the paste.

Settings โ†’ Placeholders โ†’ Pause before the Enter. Half a second suits everything tried here; make it longer for an agent that wants longer. Press Enter twice is the last resort, and it is off on purpose: a second return also answers whatever dialog the first one opened.

If the prompt is not meant to send itself, there is nothing wrong โ€” a prompt sends itself only when it carries the โ†ต mark, which is set where the prompt is written.

Ctrl+B does nothing

On a phone there is no Ctrl, and Firefox keeps Ctrl+B for its bookmarks sidebar. Use the ^B key in the bar.

No sessions, and every terminal is empty

Look at the first lines Argus printed when it started:

tmux NOT FOUND โ€” no sessions and no terminals until it is installed
(files, documents and the machine page work regardless)

Argus drives tmux by running it; without tmux on the machine there is nothing to attach to. It does not refuse to start, because the file browser, the documents and the machine page work perfectly well without it โ€” but everything about sessions is dead until you dnf install tmux (or apt, or brew).

If it does say a version, that line is worth quoting in a bug report: capture-pane -p crashes the server outright on some 3.3a builds, and more than one oddity here has turned out to be the tmux version rather than Argus.

A shortcut opens something while I am reading

Every default that could fire while you read now takes modifiers โ€” Ctrl+Alt for the screens down the side, Ctrl+Shift for the desk you are on, Ctrl+Alt+Shift for arranging it (?, F11 and Alt+V are the exceptions) โ€” because a bare letter fires anywhere that is not a terminal or a text box, and a listing, a document and the journal are none of those. If yours are still bare letters, or single-Ctrl ones the browser eats, they are what an older version set: open the list with ? and Put the original keys back.

The terminal keeps resizing under me

Two clients on one session cannot both choose the size. Press Watch without changing the size (๐Ÿ”’) on the one that is only watching, or Fit the session to this screen (โคข) on the one you are working in. See Sessions and the terminal.

A folder does not show a file that is there

A listing re-reads itself every few seconds and redraws when something changed. In tree view it does not โ€” that would close every branch you opened โ€” so use the โ†ป button.

Everything is refused with "this server is read-only"

Start the server with --allow-write (the installer's service does). Browsing works without it; nothing that writes does โ€” files, starting or proposing a team, git worktrees.

A PDF cannot be searched

Searching needs pdftotext (poppler) on the machine. If the file itself is a scan there is no text in it to find, and Argus says which of the two it is.
