Updating departmental email and letter branding - alphagov/notifications-manuals GitHub Wiki
The way our branding works is that branding applied to the organisation cascades down to the services. However, services can apply their own branding should they need to.
For any of the 24 ministerial departments that may exist on our platform, we update their email and letter branding.
Formats
Email branding
File format: PNG, height 108px, cropped to artwork bounds
Letter branding

Generating branding
- Use Adobe Illustrator (if you can obtain license from DSIT) or Inkscape to generate SVGs and PNGs
- Optimise PNGS with Tinify and SVGs with SVGO
Storing branding
Current branding assets exist in the shared drive under "Government Brand Identities".
Updating branding
Once happy with generated assets, use "Letter branding" and "Email branding" sections of platform admin to search and update brandings.
For email branding there probably 2 to update:
- Department name
- GOV.UK and department name
For both, you can leave the radio buttons set as they are
Additionally, we have a small set of crests that our admin tools uses to generate some email branding. Those should be updated in our admin repo
