Campaign FAQ & Technical Guidelines

This page answers some frequently asked questions about the tools and platforms we'll be using for Star Wars: Forgotten Ones.

Using the RPG Sage Discord Bot

Q: What is the "RPG Sage" bot and how will we use it?

A: RPG Sage is a Discord bot we'll be using to streamline several aspects of our game. Its primary functions for us will be:

  • Character Proxy: You'll be able to set a name and avatar (token) for your character directly in Discord. When you post, it can appear as if your character is speaking.
  • Dice Rolling: The bot handles all dice rolls (e.g., d20s, damage dice) with modifiers.
  • Stat Integration: Key character stats can be imported into the bot, allowing it to automatically apply relevant modifiers to your rolls.
  • Further Information: You can learn more about its capabilities here: RPG Sage Wiki

Q: How do my character's stats get into the RPG Sage bot?

A: This is linked to our character sheet system. See the Google Sheets FAQ below. The bot has a feature to import data directly from a specially formatted tab on your Google Sheet character sheet.

Q: Will I need to learn complex bot commands?

A: Basic commands for rolling dice and setting up your character proxy are straightforward. The GM will provide initial guidance and a quick reference. The primary goal is to make gameplay smoother, not more complicated.

Character Sheets & Google Drive/Sheets

Q: What are we using for character sheets?

A: We will be using Google Sheets for our character sheets. The GM will provide a template.

Q: Why Google Sheets?

A: Google Sheets allows for:

  • Easy Collaboration & Sharing: The GM can easily view and assist with character sheets.
  • Dynamic Updates: Changes are saved in real-time.
  • RPG Sage Integration: Crucially, the template will include a specific tab (likely named SageImport or similar) formatted for easy importation of your character's core stats directly into the RPG Sage Discord bot. This automates applying your modifiers to dice rolls made via the bot.

Q: Do I need a Google Account / Access to Google Drive?

A: Yes. To use and maintain your character sheet, you will need a Google account to access Google Drive and Google Sheets. This is essential for managing your character's statistics and for the integration with the RPG Sage bot.

Q: Do I need a Gmail account to use Google Sheets or Google Drive?

A: No, a Gmail account is not required to have a Google Account. You can create a Google Account using your existing, preferred email address (e.g., Hotmail, Yahoo, Outlook, ProtonMail, etc.).

Q: How do I create a Google Account with my existing email address?

A: It's a straightforward process:

  1. Go to the Google Account creation page.
  2. Instead of creating a new Gmail address, look for an option like "Use my current email address instead" (this wording might vary slightly).
  3. Enter your preferred existing email address and follow the prompts to set up your password and complete the Google Account creation.
  4. Once your Google Account is set up with your existing email, you'll be able to access Google Drive and Google Sheets, and the GM can share the character sheet template with you.

Q: How does the SageImport tab work?

A: The GM will provide a character sheet template with the SageImport tab already set up. You will fill in your character's primary stats (Abilities, Skills, Defenses, Attack Bonuses, HP, etc.) in the designated cells on your main character sheet tabs. Formulas on the SageImport tab will automatically pull this data into the correct format for the RPG Sage bot. You won't typically need to edit the SageImport tab directly.

Q: What if I'm not familiar with Google Sheets?

A: The template will be designed to be user-friendly. The GM will provide guidance on how to fill it out and how the SageImport tab functions for bot integration. The main focus is on inputting your character's numbers; the complex formatting for the bot is pre-handled.
