Player: iaimtomisbehave
Era of Origin: 83 BBY (High Republic)
Character Links:
- Sex: Male
- Race: Balosar
- Age: 20s-30s (uncertain)
- Role/Class: Smuggler / Pilot
- Appearance: Dryzan looks perpetually rough, as if he's been up late drinking and got no sleep. His dark hair is messy and tangled, stubble lines his cheeks, and his dark eyes look slightly sunken in. He has a sickly sounding cough that never quite seems to clear his lungs. He is often seen in a once-smart shirt with a dark suit vest, very durable knee-high boots, and a large overcoat. A small pair of red-tinted pince-nez are often clamped onto the bridge of his nose, though mostly for appearances. He usually keeps his antennapalps hidden to pass as human.
A smuggler and pilot from the High Republic era, Dryzan is a man out of time. He awakens in a galaxy where all of his old contacts are dead, his secret routes have shifted into nothingness, and his knowledge is mostly useless. Beneath a cynical and roguish exterior lies a hidden heart of gold, struggling to find a new purpose in a baffling new reality.
Dryzan was once a competent smuggler who made his living distributing the then-new "death sticks" that had become popular on his homeworld of Balosar. Now, thrust into the era of the Galactic Empire, he finds himself adrift. He is a survivor who uses humor as a defense mechanism and expressive hand gestures to draw attention and misdirect. His ultimate goal is to find a score big enough to finally go legitimate, but he is haunted by the past and the choices he made to survive.
At first glance, this appears to be a well-worn but high-quality trench coat from the High Republic era. What isn't obvious is that the coat is a sophisticated piece of infiltration gear, designed for moving unnoticed through secure ports and high-stakes negotiations.
- Reinforced Lining: The durable fabric offers protection from environmental hazards and stray impacts, granting a +2 equipment bonus to Fortitude Defense.
- Smuggler's Pockets: The coat is fitted with 10 expertly hidden and shielded pockets/compartments, each capable of holding items up to 0.5kg.
- Sensor-Baffling Liner: The coat is lined with a micro-weave of sensor-baffling fibers. Any item concealed within the coat gains a +5 bonus to resist detection by scanners. Additionally, Dryzan gains a +2 equipment bonus on Stealth checks made to conceal an object on his person.
-
Adaptable Appearance: Once per day, Dryzan can spend one minute to reconfigure the coat, choosing one of the following benefits until he reconfigures it again:
- Unassuming Traveler: The coat becomes more worn and common, granting a +2 equipment bonus on Stealth checks made to avoid notice in a crowd.
- Imposing Figure: The coat's lines become sharper and more severe, granting a +2 equipment bonus on Persuasion checks made to intimidate.
- Man of Means: The fabric takes on a richer texture, granting a +2 equipment bonus on Deception or Persuasion checks when feigning wealth or influence.
The explosive event that nearly killed you left a strange echo in your soul. It's not a wound you can see, but a constant, low-level psychic static that puts you out of step with the galaxy. Your nerves are frayed and exposed, making you painfully sensitive to the strange energies of the universe. When a Force-user acts nearby, you feel it as a wave of disorienting sensory overload—a sudden, crippling migraine that makes it hard to think or act.
This inner chaos also makes it impossible to find the calm focus needed for careful, measured work. You're forced to live moment to moment, relying on instinct, quick thinking, and a roll of the dice.
But you're a survivor. You've learned how to channel that chaos. You can push all your luck and bravado into a single, brilliant act of audacity—telling the perfect lie, pulling off an impossible slice, or landing a desperate shot. You know, however, that this effort always comes at a cost, leaving you psychically and physically drained.
This condition represents the lasting trauma from being caught in a raw Force explosion, with the following effects:
-
Sensory Overload: Whenever a Force Power is activated within 6 squares of Dryzan (by friend or foe), the ambient Force energy makes an attack against his Will Defense with an attack bonus of
d20 + {dryz::level} + 2
. If the attack hits, he becomes Shaken until the start of his next turn. (A Shaken character takes a -2 penalty on attack rolls, ability checks, skill checks, and Will Defense).
Push Your Luck: By embracing the chaos, Dryzan can push his luck for a moment of incredible scoundrel's brilliance, but it always takes a toll.
- Benefit: Once per encounter, as a Free Action before making a skill check or an attack roll, Dryzan can choose one benefit: gain a +5 bonus on a single skill check OR a +2 bonus on a single attack roll.
- Cost: Regardless of the outcome, he immediately moves -1 step down the Condition Track. This is a normal penalty and can be removed via the Recovery action.
