Mods that conflict with Ploppable RICO Revisited - algernon-A/Ploppable-RICO-Revisited GitHub Wiki
Over the years, the Cities: Skylines modding community has produced a large number of mods. As is often the case with game mods, most of these are no longer maintained and have not had any updates in a long time (if ever). Many were unstable to begin with; others no longer work at all with the base game, as the code they affect has since been updated (even at times incorporating mod functionality into the base game itself); others have been replaced by more modern alternatives that are more stable and offer greater flexibility and/or functionality.
It is important for all mod users to note that game mods generally, and especially mods for games such as Cities: Skylines, are NOT 'plug-and-play'. Users are expected to actively maintain their mod collections, making sure that they are aware of any updates to mods they use, and removing any mods that no longer function well either with the base game or other mods (Ploppable RICO Revisited itself is no exception to that rule).
As such, although there are a number of known incompatible mods, there is always the possibility that there are more mods out there that are incompatible with Ploppable RICO Revisited, but whose incompatibility is not currently known. Therefore this list should not be consided complete.
Currently, the following mods are known to be incompatible with Ploppable RICO Revisited:
Inherently incompatible mods
Some mods are inherently incompatible with Ploppable RICO Revisited, because either they try to do the same thing, or because they modify game code in a way that prevents other mods from operating. Two mods are currently known to fall into this category for Ploppable RICO Revisited; if either is present, Ploppable RICO Revisited will display a warning and safely deactivate itself (as to continue to attempt operation with one of these mods present could result in irreparable damage to your city).
- The original Ploppable RICO mod - not surprisingly, this tries to do similar things affecting the same code as Ploppable RICO Revisited, which means that they cannot co-exist. Alternative mod: Ploppable RICO Revisited - this mod!
- Enhanced Building Capacity - this mod unfortunately implements its effects in a way that is incompatible with any other mod that changes building AI, including Ploppable RICO Revisited. Alternative mod: Realistic Population Revisited does everything that Enhanced Building Capacity does, plus a lot more, and all in a way that is compatible with other mods.
Mods that break Harmony 2
Ploppable RICO Revisited, like many other currently-maintained Cities: Skylines mods, requires the Harmony 2 modding library to inject its functionality into the base game's code in a stable way. Any mod that interferes with the operation of the Harmony mod will stop Ploppable RICO Revisited.
The old Harmony version 1 is used by a number of older Cities: Skylines mods; unfortunately, Harmony 1 is incompatible with the modern Harmony 2. boformer's Harmony 2 mod for Cities: Skylines addresses this issue by patching Harmony 1 mods to be compatible with Harmony 2; however, some old (and now-abandoned) mods have bundled very old (and buggy) versions of Harmony 1 that can't be patched this way. Unfortunately, due the way that Cities: Skylines loads mods, the very presence of these old versions of Harmony will intermittently interfere with the Harmony loading process and break other mods that rely on Harmony. Two mods are currently confirmed to be packaged with these obsolete Harmony versions:
- Painter - now abandoned after its author retired from Cities: Skylines modding. Alternative mod: Repaint, an updated fork of the original that includes several bugfixes and some additional functionality.
- Garbage Bin Controller - now abandoned after its author retired from Cities: Skylines modding. Alternative mod: Garbage Bin Manager.
Mods with buggy Harmony implementations or that intefere with mod loading orders
Additionally, two other mods have been recently identified that can interfere with the proper loading of the Harmony library into Cities: Skylines, potentially breaking mods that use Harmony 1, Harmony 2, or both. These are:
- Network Extensions 2 (NExT2) - very popular when it first came out, as back then it was the only way to add new roads into Cities: Skylines. The base game was subsequently updated to include creation, editing and distribution of custom roads without the need for a mod, and the mod is now effectively abandoned. Unfortunately, NExT2 containes code that interferes with mod loading (for a planned plugin system that was never implemented); this code can block Harmony 2 (and/or dependent mods) from loading. Alternative mod: it can be tricky to replace, but it can be done. Use Road Removal Tool to remove and/or replace the NExT2 roads; there is now an extensive collection of replacement roads available on the workshop that can be used as substitutes (just search for your favorite road types). As a bonus, your game will now load much faster, too.
Plop the Growables
Plop the Growables technically doesn't conflict with Ploppable RICO Revisited, and the two mods can be used together, but care must be taken to make sure that their settings don't conflict. If you are using the two mods together, Ploppable RICO Revisited will display a message to remind you of this, but will still continue to function normally.
