Metis — cognition & verification tier

Metis (Îŧáŋ†Ī„ΚĪ‚) is the ecosystem's distributed cognitive layer over any LLM — Understanding Council → fail-closed confidence gate → layered Mixture-of-Agents → grounded verifier. It returns a machine-readable verification envelope (verify_score, verified, optional needs_clarification).

Why Metis matters in AICOM

Layer Role
Oracles Verifiable math primitives (randomness, VDF, reputation, â€Ļ)
Metis Verifiable cognition — multi-agent reasoning + confidence gate on natural-language decisions
AI-Factory Produces products; optionally calls Metis on high-stakes stages (architect, methodologist)
ARGUS Demand-side agent; can consume Metis + MCP tools like any other host

Hard invariant: factory and Metis are independent. Missing Metis → factory runs unchanged (fail-open gate). Missing factory → Metis serves /v1/* normally.

Factory integration (optional gate)

High-stakes pipeline stages can POST to Metis /v1/verify via llm/metis_gate.py (HTTP only — never imports metis).

Metis agents can attach ecosystem MCP servers via presets:

aimarket-mcp — shared MCP gateway (stdio on Glama, HTTP self-host). Written once; consumed by Metis, ARGUS, and any stdio/HTTP MCP host.

Alien Monitor

Metis appears as the cognition node in Alien Monitor — live stats + in-graph chat proxied server-side (POST /api/metis/chat) so API keys never reach the browser.
